Sonamarg
is the staging point for some of the most popular treks in
the higher altitudes. A pleasant one day excursion from
Sonamarg is to the Thajiwas glacier, 8 km away, and
approachable by a pony over a well maintained track. The
most popular trek originating from Sonamarg is the Kashmir
Lake Trek. It covers the lakes of Gangabal, Vishansar,
Kishansar, and close to the Harrnukh peak. The trail first
crosses the Nichinai Pass (13 ,387 ft) and then enters the
alpine valleys that eventually lead to the Gangabal Lake.
Vishansar, Vishnu's Lake, is just over 12,000 ft and
slightly larger than the 12,500 ft Kishansar, Krishna's
Lake. Gangabal lake is the highlight of this trip. Protected
by the three peaks of Mount Harrnukh, Gangabal is 5 miles in
circumference and offers the finest trout fishing anywere in
Kashmir
Trekking
is undoubtedly one of the most famous & much loved
adventurous sports among people visiting Jammu & Kashmir for
a holiday. The vast ice covered trekking fields make an
incredible sight for non-trekkers also. Thajiwas Glacier is
one of the prime tourist attractions in Sonamarg in Jammu &
Kashmir. This glacier is totally frozen with snow but also
provides some glimpses of melted snow during summer that
looks quite exquisite.
Thajiwas
trekking is hot favorite trekking tour option for adventure
lovers. The trek starts from Thajiwas Glacier and move ahead
covering Nichnai, Vishnasar to Krishansar Lake and then to
Gadsar to Poshpatri and finally to Gangabal Lake.
An important point should be considered before planning for
Thajiwas trekking tour. Since this is a hardcore 6 days
trekking and night is to be spent in tents so trekkers
should first get their routine medical check-up before
picking up for this adventurous trek. It could get difficult
for a person having diabetic, BP problem, asthma or any
other health problem. Moreover some initial training for
staying in a tent and living on your own in some hard
conditions along with basic initiative health related
information should be there with the trekker.
Trekking In Sonamarg
The Thajiwas trekking can be done in 6 days starting with
Thajiwas glacier and moving ahead covering Nichnai and then
Vishnasar to Krishansar Lake and then to Gadsar to Poshpatri
and finally to Gangabal Lake. The day by day trek plan is as
follows -
Day
1 - Thajiwas Glacier
The trek starts from Thajiwas Glacier, which is a famous
tourist attraction in Sonamarg in Jammu & Kashmir. The first
day is dedicated to glacier itself and the nearby areas.
Night can be spent in tents or Alpine Huts.
Day 2 – From Thajiwas Glacier to Nichnai
Day two starts with trekkers moving for their next
destination – the Nichnai which is at a distance of 13 km
from Thajiwas Glacier. Trekkers will cross Shokhadari in
between reaching to Nichnai. The night is spent in the
tents.
Day
3 – From Nichnai to Vishnasar to Krishansar Lake
On day third, the trekking will cover Nichnai to Vishnasar
and ending to Krishansar Lake. This distance though will be
of 15 km total and will take a walk of, on an average, 6 to
7 hours. The night is again spent at tents.
Day 4 – From Krishansar to Gadsar
The day 4th will start by leaving from Krishansar to move
ahead towards Gadsar. This entire trekking will be of
approximately 16 km in distance, by walk. The average
distance in hours will count up to 6-7 hours. The trekkers
will reach Gadsar after late noon and the day will be there
at Gadsar while night will be in tents.
Day
5 – From Gadsar to Poshpatri
From Gadsar, one can further move towards Poshpatri, which
is also referred to as the Valley of Flowers. The day can be
spent enjoying this exquisitely stunning valley filled with
exotic flowers while night will be enjoyed in tents with
closeness to lap of Mother Nature before making the move to
next destination.
Day 6 – From Poshpatri to Gangabal Lake - Sonamarg
From Poshpatri, trekkers can start their journey early in
the morning to reach to their next destination in the tour
which is Gangabal Lake. From this lake, the exciting view of
Harmukh can be enjoyed. This is the last destination of the
Thajiwas trekking in Jammu & Kashmir and hence the full day
can be spent here for rainbow trout fishing at lake or by
visiting the infamous Lul Gul Pass to enjoy exotic views of
popular Nanga Parbat. The night will be spent in tents.
After enjoying it, one can move back to Sonamarg in the
evening or next day and hence the trekking finishes here. |
